What are Birthstones?

I am asked often about birthstones, so I thought I might as well summarize it all in a few words.

What are birthstones?

Birthstones are a collection of precious gems categorized by months. Each month has its own precious gemstone. Traditionally, each gem holds a different meaning and properties thought to hold true to its wearer. There are a few months where multiple birthstones symbolize various characteristics of the person wearing the gem. Each of these birthstones has a fascinating history and continues bringing health and wellness to its wearers.

Birthstones in History

Historians trace the origin of birthstones back to the Breastplate of Aaron-High Priest and brother of Moses, as described in the Book of Exodus in the Bible. The Breastplate included 12 unique gemstones that represented the 12 tribes of Israel. It was part of the high priest's wardrobe with specific symbolism regarding the tribes. Over time, astrologers began to attribute one gemstone to each of the 12 months of the year. They believed each gemstone brought healing powers or protection from evil to the people born in each month, which is why we still call them birthstones today.

Birthstones Properties

Depending on traditions and culture, birthstones have unique features and benefits to their wearer. Among those advantages, we can find healing effects and even capabilities to improve our personality. In other cultures, they attract good luck and fortune, wealth, and even domestic harmony.

I believe wearing the gemstone that coincides with your birth month will help you enhance your aura and energy levels. It can also help you feel aligned with your soul purpose. You can also tap into the healing potential of each stone, no matter what month you were born in, by wearing or using the corresponding stone of the month.

Gems have become very fashionable and have grown increasingly trendy and popular in recent years. In my humble opinion merely because they have become quite an eye-catcher among celebrities at red carpet events.

Personalities as late Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, Blake Lively, Jennifer Lopez, and Gigi Hadid certainly have paved the way for gemstones to become the latest must-have.

The reason Diamonds are a girl's best friend is just cuz she hasn't met the perfect gemstone yet.
